Run Baker Run

Baker ran track with Personal Best Athletics (it's as if I named the organization myself!) for the first time tonight. He ran 1200 meters total. He got to wear a stopwatch which was a HUGE hit. I think we may join the club so he can run every week. I'm feeling like we may be on to something...

Muffin Melts

I found a recipe for Make-Ahead Muffin Melts on The Pioneer Woman blog. (Admitting that I like a blog with the name "pioneer" in it makes me very proud of myself.) Basically this is job security in the form of breakfast. Kevin ate 4 1/2 muffin melts...go me!

Refreshing

Sparkling natural mineral water. Or as they say in Italy, water with gas. Delicious!

Welcome Home

In honor of Kevin's arrival Tuesday night, I roasted a chicken and new potatoes (loosely based on Barefoot Contessa's recipe). I've cooked this lots of times and it always turns out great (one chicken; 425 degrees for 1.5 hours). But I actually "trussed" the chicken this time. I bought the twine at Williams and Sonoma - which made me feel like a real pro. I served the chicken and new potatoes with roasted Brussel sprouts. I bought rolls at Petty's but King found the bag (his annoying talent) and ate the entire bag. (He owes me $4.50.) Welcome home Kevin... xoxoxox

This is the Face of Pre-K

It has been a monumental (and memorable and happy) day at our house today. Baker is now officially in pre-K! Riding to school this morning, he was very excited and very chatty. He said, "I can't wait to get to school and look at that science shelf!" And sure enough, we walked into his classroom and he made a beeline to the science shelf and never looked back. Literally. No goodbye. No hug. No nothing. Magnifying glass in hand, he inspected the snakeskin, the bugs, the leaves. And he was thrilled.

And six hours later, after much needed time ALONE, I might be a little thrilled too...

Boots, please...

I've asked around and I hear that Hunter boots are must-have shoes for winters in Chicago. Basically, they're expensive wellies, but they're better! And cuter! And you can buy cute socks that line/insulate the boots. They come in a million colors but of course, I'll buy black.
